LEGO DIMENSIONS

Hey guys!

This is a review that I have wanted to do for a long time! Now just like any other game review I do, there will be NO SPOILERS.
About two weeks ago I finally purchased the starter pack for my PS4! And I cannot be happier about purchasing it!
At first, I will admit I was very wary about spending £80 on this game. Just like other games like this out there; it does become very expensive with all the additional characters you can purchase. I spent a good 2 days doing research. I looked at IGN reviews, watched smalls bits of game play that wouldn't ruin the whole story and I even asked people I knew that owned the game.
I learnt that even though the starter pack is £80, you don't have to get any of the extra to complete the main story mode. Obviously if you like to go around get all the gold bricks, find the special items, you need the additional characters. But you don't have to get them all straight away. The starter pack would keep you (or your child) going for a little while, whilst you can put some money away for additional characters.
I have noticed with the bit of gaming I've done, you can "hire" a character in the game. For example in one of the levels I needed help from a character such a Scobby Doo. I don't have him in figure, so it came up that you can hire him in the game for 50,000 Lego coins. I thought well why not, and I got to use Scobby Doo for 30 seconds to dig up some dirt for extra secrets!
Also I have noticed, in different shops sometimes they do different deals, an extra £5 off team packs, or level packs. So if you want to collect more, it can pay to have a look around and even look online, you might get yourself a better deal.
Here you can see I got the Doctor Who level pack for £5 cheaper!

Game play

I don't have any screenshots of the game play as I don't want to ruin anything for anybody. But you can always have a peek on google.
I haven't done much game play, I would say about a quarter of the campaign. But so far I am really enjoying it! You can use any of your characters to play the campaign. Obviously when it goes back to cut scenes it shows the three main characters. But that doesn't stop you from playing the campaign as Harley Quinn, Homer Simpson and the Twelve Doctor! You will need to use the three characters that come with the game at certain points; so it is handy to have the characters and portal next too you.
It is true, there is a lot of physical movement to the game. But to me, this makes it even more fun. At certain points a character might get trapped, so you need to move them to another side of the portal. There is colour portals, that involve you jumping from one part of the portal which will be coloured to another. So if playing this game I would keep it close to you so you don't have to keep getting up to change characters.

As you can see, I keep all mine in a box and use the lid to keep them on so I don't loose them/break them on my bed!
Another great part is you can have up to 7 characters on the portal at once! This is great if you want to play as them all, or there is two of you playing.

Figures

The figures you get are actual Lego pieces. You have to build the characters and their transports. You get the instructions to build the character; then when you put the character on the portal it will then give you the electronic instructions to build whatever comes with the character!
Keep in mind you get spare bits of Lego with the packs. Some packs you can upgrade the transports, which means rebuilding. So it is a good idea to keep a little box or bag handy to keep your spare Lego bits in. You never know, they might come in handy one day!!

If you're buying this for a young child, please make sure that the little discs that the figures are standing on, do not get lost! These are what make the Lego dimensions work, otherwise you just got lots of Lego figures.
Thankfully when you put the figures on they fit well and takes a bit of a pull to take them of the disc. But it's just a warning. You don't want to spend all that money to have the disc go missing.

I do have one bad point. Now I don't know if this was my PlayStation fault, a server fault of the game itself; but I was playing the game, half way through one level and the game stopped working and the PlayStation error screen came up. None of the progress I made would have saved, and I did get a little bit cranky.

This is what came up (minus playing Battlefield 4) (ps thank you random person for putting this photo on Google when I typed "PlayStation 4 game error")
It has only happened the once (today) and I'm hoping it wont happen again.

Other than that one little problem. This game has been very enjoyable.

Personally I do not want to know how much I have spent, and I very much doubt I wont buy anymore I am a big "I must complete all the Lego" As I have already Platinum Lego Marvel and Lego Movie Videogame. I know doubt I'll want to do that with dimensions too.
But hey, at least I get cool Lego to play with after!
